  • M.E.R.E.S 2429 Lake Avenue Muskegon, MI, 49445 United States (map)

A microforest is being created at the Muskegon Lake Nature Preserve! A microforest is a very dense planting of native trees, shrubs and ground cover on a relatively small area of land. The process of creating a microforest begins with establishing a simulated forest floor using compost, sheet cardboard and recycled woodchips. Volunteers are needed to help spread compost, place cardboard on top of the compost and then spreading woodchips on top of the cardboard.

Check in at the blue tent next to the Preserve staging area. Water and rakes will be provided, but please bring a heavy-duty rake if you have one.
