Registration is now open for the Muskegon Conservation District's Thursday Night Plants event at the Muskegon Lake Nature Preserve on Thursday, June 20th from 4:30pm to 6pm. Learn the very basics of identifying plants during an interactive walk around the Preserve.

Join us for our first Work Bee of the season! We will meet at the Ron Brown Education Pavilion and will be painting the two sheds adjacent to it. Please park in the Preserve parking lot and follow the gravel maintenace road to the pavilion.
Volunteers are needed for the Muskegon Lake Annual Spring Cleanup! The cleanup is scheduled for Sunday, April 28th from 8am to noon. The Muskegon Lake Nature Preserve is one of 12 sites that will be a part of the cleanup.
Sign up to volunteer at the Preserve will begin at 8am. Look for the green chevy truck parked at the entrance to the maintenance road. Garbage bags will be provided. Please bring your own rubber gloves or work gloves, rain gear and wear old shoes or rubber boots.
Come join us on the 28th!! The rain date for the Muskegon Lake Nature Preserve only is Saturday, May 4th from 9am to noon.
This year's Sportsman for Youth is scheduled for Saturday, September 9th from 9am to 3pm at the Muskegon County Fairgrounds.
This family friendly event is a one-day outdoor extravaganza for kids of all ages to experience the outdoors and its many opportunities. The event is FREE and includes activities, demonstrations and information from each of the exhibitors.
There will also be prize drawings, lunch and gift bags provided for all youth (17 years of age & younger) in attendance (while supplies last).
The Muskegon Lake Nature Preserve will be an exhibitor again this year. Stop by booth number 28 and say hi! We will have updates on the Preserve and seed balls and coloring books for the kids!

Volunteers are needed on Sunday, April 23rd from 8am to noon at the Muskegon Lake Nature Preserve! Join us for the Annual Muskegon Lake Cleanup.
We will be picking up trash and debris within the Preserve property including the shoreline and in the water around the Preserve. Those with Kayaks are encouraged to bring them.
Please meet in the Preserve parking lot near the Bike Staging Area at 8am and look for the blue canopy with our banner. Garbage bags, water and snacks will be provided.
Giving Tuesday is a global movement that was created in 2012 to encourage people to do good. It is a day to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity. Every act of generosity counts and everyone has something to contribute toward building a better community that we all want to live in.
This year's Giving Tuesday event is November 29th. The Muskegon Lake Nature Preserve will be a participant this year and over the next 9 days we will talk more about Giving Tuesday and the MLNP.
The Muskegon Environmental Research & Education Society (MERES) operates the 17 acre Muskegon Lake Nature Preserve. MERES is a 501-C-3 tax exempt organization and operates without any direct government assistance. We are totally dependent on donations, grants and the dedication of volunteers who have worked many hours to provide this beautiful nature sanctuary in the heart of an urban community.
The Muskegon Lake Nature Preserve will be an exhibitor at the Sportsman for Youth Day on Saturday September 10th from 9am to 3pm.
Volunteers are needed to explain about the native flower species at the Muskegon Lake Nature Preserve and to assist kids with making native wildflower seed balls out of clay. The seed balls can then be planted at home or at a designated spot at the Preserve.
We will have two shifts, 8:30am to 11:30am and 11:30am to 3:00pm. If you are interested in helping please contact Lynn Comried at (319) 651-4869.
Volunteers needed! The Muskegon Lake Nature Preserve is participating in this year’s Muskegon River Trash Bash.
The Muskegon River Trash Bash is an annual family-friendly cleanup event. Cleanup teams will pick up trash along the river, its tributaries and the land that surrounds it.
MLNP has registered as a team and our cleanup around the Preserve will occur on Saturday, August 20th from 9am till noon. Trash bags will be provided, as well as water and snacks.
We will be meeting at the Bike Staging area in the parking lot of the Preserve. Look for the tent and our banner. Please bring your kayak or canoe if you have one. Much of the trash is in the water, in hard to reach areas! Waders, nets and grabber tools would also be useful. Please message us if you have any questions and we hope to see you on the 20th!

We will be replacing boards on the Al Bell Trail this coming Saturday (July 2nd) from 9am to noon at the Preserve.
We will be meeting at the Ron Brown Education Pavilion. Please bring a cordless drill or driver if you have one.
Please join us for our Grand Reopening on Friday, April 29, 2022 starting at 4:30pm. The grand reopening is in celebration of the successful completion of the 17 month long habitat and aquatic restoration project at the Preserve.
The program will include guest speakers, a ribbon cutting ceremony, information stations, self-guided tours, family activities, free native plant seeds, cake, and tree and shrub planting in observance of Arbor Day.
The Muskegon Lake Nature Preserve is managed by the Muskegon Environmental Research & Education Society (MERES), a 503 (c) nonprofit for enjoyment by the public and to inspire individuals of all ages, abilities and backgrounds to enjoy, discover and cherish the natural environment.
The Muskegon Lake Nature Preserve will be a part of the 2022 Muskegon Lake Annual Spring Cleanup! The cleanup is scheduled for Sunday April 24th from 8am till noon.
If you would like to volunteer to assist with cleanup at the MLNP you can show up at the Preserve pavilion or stop by the CIO Hall at 490 West Western Ave in downtown Muskegon on Sunday the 24th. There will be volunteers from the Preserve at both locations to answer questions and assist with signup. No pre-registration is required.
